Double grouser track shoes (for example, 598-6049) provide flotation and traction for the machine while protecting the track link group.

- Double grouser track shoes have less penetration and traction than single grouser track shoes but offer better turning ability. Double grouser track shoes are standard on track-type loaders and excavators because these machines require less turning resistance and greater maneuverability.
- Trapezoidal track shoes have a trapezoidal opening between the bolts that allows packed material to be released.
