6I-9508 19.48 mm Thick Clutch Piston
Cat® 19.48 mm Thick Clutch Piston for Torque Converters
Description
The clutch piston is used to engage and disengage the torque converter. The surface of the piston has a series of grooves. The grooves hold the oil used to drive the piston. The piston is connected to a connecting rod, which in turn is connected to the clutch disc. When the oil is pressurized, it enters the cylinder and pushes the piston downward. The connecting rod then converts the piston's linear motion into rotary motion of the clutch disc. This causes the clutch plates to engage with the turbine, transferring power from the engine to the transmission. To disengage the torque converter, the oil in the cylinder is released. This allows the piston to move upward, disengaging the clutch plates from the turbine.
