Description
An oil level gauge (dipstick) has a ring or handle on one end for easy insertion into and removal from the engine. The other end is marked with indicators showing the minimum and maximum oil levels. It has additional markings showing the optimal oil level for the engine under specific conditions, such as when the engine is hot or cold. To use it, insert it into the engine's oil reservoir or oil pan and then remove it. Then check the oil on the dipstick against the markings to determine whether the oil level is within the recommended range. If the oil level is low, additional oil can be added until the optimal level is reached.
