315-0047 Aftercooler Core
Cat® 538.6 mm Long Aftercooler Core
Description
The aftercooler core is a component commonly used in turbocharged and supercharged engines. It is a heat exchanger that helps lower the temperature of compressed air after it flows through a forced induction intake system. It contains a core made of finned tubes and end tanks. Compressed air from the turbocharger or supercharger enters the aftercooler core and, as it flows through the finned tubes, transfers heat to the surrounding air. This process (known as intercooling) cools the compressed air, increasing its density and improving engine performance and efficiency. The aftercooler core is typically located between the forced induction intake system and the engine intake manifold. It lowers intake air temperature, reduces the risk of knock, improves combustion, and increases overall engine output.
Features
- Protects the engine from potential damage.
- Prevents intake air from overheating and reduces the risk of knock
Applications
The aftercooler core cools compressed air before it enters the engine.
