Description
The retaining ring, also known as an external snap ring, is a metal fastener that fits into a groove on the outside of a shaft or pin. It can be made of materials such as stainless steel, steel alloys, bronze, and plastic. The size of an external retaining ring is determined by the diameter and width of the shaft or pin on which it is placed. External retaining rings can be placed and removed using retaining ring pliers, which are designed to fit into the holes of the ring and expand or compress the ring as needed.
