Description
Spacers are commonly used to provide additional stretch length. They are usually a section of tube with a fastener inserted through it; therefore, a short spacer may resemble a thick washer. Washers are sometimes used as small spacers in a fastener to reduce preload loss or narrow the cyclic stress range of the machine workload. They are used to establish and maintain the functional relationship of related parts in a machine system. The spacer has a through hole through which the bolt is inserted. This means the spacer does not engage the threads of the bolt. Because a spacer cannot be tightened directly, a round outer profile is typically used.
