Description
The starting motor ring gear (also called the flywheel ring gear) is a toothed ring mounted on the flywheel, which is a rotating disc connected to the engine crankshaft. The flywheel gear transfers torque from the starting motor to the engine crankshaft, starting the combustion process. It also helps maintain the engine's rotational angular momentum.
