Description
The external retaining ring, also called an external snap ring, is used to secure the sun gear to the planetary carrier in the final drive assembly. The ring is circular with a gap, allowing it to be placed on the gear without sliding over the end of the gear. It is installed around the sun gear and is made of a durable material to withstand the loads and stresses generated during operation.
Attributes
- Prevents parts from coming loose during operation
- Helps dampen vibration caused by movement
Applications
The external retaining ring provides a secure connection to the sun gear and maintains its alignment, preventing axial movement or displacement of the gear, which is fixed to the shaft inside the final drive planetary carrier.
