These components work together to facilitate the cooling and heating processes and ensure a comfortable indoor climate. Although air conditioners are usually associated with cooling, they can also provide heating through these coils. The evaporator coil is responsible for cooling the indoor air. It works by letting the refrigerant evaporate and absorb heat from the surrounding air, thereby lowering the air temperature. This cooled air is then distributed throughout the room. The heating coil, often called an electric heating element or auxiliary heating element, performs the opposite function. When the air conditioner operates in heating mode, this coil generates heat as electric current flows through a resistive element. The hot air is then circulated to maintain the desired indoor temperature.
