Description
The planetary transmission provides the torque and speed control needed to move and operate the machine effectively over rough terrain. The transmission consists of a set of interconnected planetary gears. This configuration assembly includes a sun gear, a planetary gear, a planetary gear carrier, and a ring gear. The gears work together to achieve different speed and torque outputs. Power input to the planetary transmission comes from the engine. By changing the rotation of the input, the transmission helps achieve different output speeds.

Applications
The planetary transmission is used in underground internal combustion load-haul-dump machines to enable direction reversal, providing forward and reverse movement.
