Description
Backup rings can prevent seal extrusion in high-pressure applications and can also be used to protect the life of the overall sealing system from pressure spikes.

Cat® backup rings are designed together with the elastomeric seal and mating components, significantly improving the life and performance of sealing systems in high-pressure applications.
Backup ring dimensions always follow strict tolerances to ensure they properly engage the seal groove with the mating surfaces. The materials selected provide pressure resistance and wear resistance.
Backup rings can be either closed rings or split rings. Split rings are easy to assemble.

Backup rings are used in high-pressure static and dynamic sealing applications, such as hydraulic pumps, valves, and engine systems.
