Description
The compression spring is the most easily recognized spring, designed to resist compaction in the direction of its axis. The spring is extended at rest; under load it shortens and stores energy, making it one of the most effective energy storage devices available. Traditionally, they are wound with uniform pitch and diameter, but today these characteristics vary widely.
