Founding

JCB was founded in 1945 by Joseph Cyril Bamford in a small garage in Staffordshire, England. He built and sold his first tipping trailer welded from surplus wartime materials.

Innovation & Growth

In 1953, JCB introduced the world's first hydraulic excavator-loader (backhoe loader). The company went on to pioneer the Teleskid (telescopic handler, 1977) and launched its iconic yellow branding. It remains a family-owned business—one of the few major global OEMs still privately held.

Headquartered in Rocester, Staffordshire, UK, JCB is the world's leading manufacturer of backhoe loaders and telescopic handlers, and a major producer of compact excavators, wheel loaders, and agricultural equipment. It operates 22 factories across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, selling in over 150 countries.
